Gaining Independence - Maria
For some growing old alone somehow alarming. The thought of being old and no one to be there gives them anxiety.Having white hairs and wrinkles makes them tremble, because their beauty is starting to fade and their strength is starting to deteriorate.
But for some people, getting old is a beginning of a new chapter. A chapter where they find joy and excitement. Where they see beauty in wrinkles and white hair. A constant reminder of hardship and struggles in the past that made them who they are now. And for some being alone doesn’t mean they have been abandoned, forsaken, or deserted. Or there is no one, to take care of them.
Rather seeing this in a brighter side. Seeing, this as a freedom and escape. Freedom from stress, freedom from pressure, free from responsibility. They can think more about themselves. They can do all the things they want with no doubt and hesitation. And now that they reach the prideful years, they are more focus on making the most out of the remaining years.
Gloria - She is very playful and like to talk a lot. She lives alone but her kids live a few houses away. On mothers day her daughter brought some vegetables. Every morning she attends the morning mass. After the mass I walked with her house. She showed me her children room. Where she still kept it tidy and still have some of their toys. She also showed me some of their clothes that she kept on the basement. While walking to the kitchen, we passed by a room where she has her loved birds.
