SAMANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
My work is inspired by the beauty, energy, and everyday life of Samaná, Dominican Republic. It’s not just about the stunning views, but also about the deep connection between nature, community, and culture that shapes everything here.
In Samaná, the green forests meet the bright blue sea, and the peaceful pace of village life blends perfectly with the wildness of nature. But what really moves me are the small, simple moments—the laughter shared by friends, neighbors chatting under the trees, and people playing mahjong in the streets. These everyday scenes show the heart of the community.
Life in Samaná is calm and grounded. People greet each other with smiles, work in small shops, ride bikes, and share stories. The simplicity of their lives—like clothes drying on lines or quiet homes nestled in nature—creates a sense of peace. Even in the heat, the people here carry on with joy, reminding me how beautiful it is to find happiness in simple moments.
Trekking or hiking isn’t my top choice, but visiting El Limón Waterfall is definitely recommended. To reach it, you ride a horse along a narrow, muddy path through dense forest. When you finally arrive at the waterfall, the force of the water is awe-inspiring, while the sharp rocks highlight nature’s untamed power. This combination of beauty and challenge reflects the message I try to convey in my work: a harmony of tranquility and strength, simplicity and depth.
Art is everywhere in Samaná. It’s painted on walls, signs, and buildings, filled with bold colors and personality. This vibrant local style has influenced my own approach to color and storytelling. I don’t try to copy what I see—I want to capture the spirit and energy that make this place so alive.
But the people of Samaná are just as important to my work as the landscape. Their warmth, kindness, and strong sense of community shine through in everything they do. I try to reflect that same feeling in my art—celebrating their connection to each other and to the land.
In the end, my photos are a way to share what I’ve experienced in Samaná. They’re not just pictures—they’re a tribute to a place full of life, beauty, and heart. Through my work, I hope others can feel the same joy and connection that makes Samaná so special.
